We've exexperienced the full range of transport in Cambodia, except a water buffalo cart - and that's probably coming.
The Bamboo train in Battembang is a highlight. The bamboo train is an ingenious contraption; a flatbed train, comprising two axles with train wheels that go onto the tracks and two bears onto which the bamboo "bed" is placed.and yes, I mean placed. It's a train that can be dismantled, lifted
off the track in order that the real train, or other bamboo train can come through. The train from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam plies this same winding, heat skewed track, as do other bamboo flat backs. Each can carry around fifteen people and or three tonnes of goods.
We position ourselves cross legged at the front sitting on the bamboo, a scant 30cm above the tracks and wait foe our driver to pull the start cord on hue little 15 up motor that will propel us on our 15km round trip.
And what a ride it is. Despite our well padded behinds we feel every join in the track, and the wind rushes through our hair. Vegetation brushes our arms and we plummet down the track. Brilliant. What a ride. We can't help but laugh, and we do. it's exihilerating.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
